Ride
Got some snowboarding in my future. It's been a while (years and years) so it's gonna be a bit sketchy, but hey, I gotta do something besides brewing beer this winter.
I'm feeling nostalgic:
Olympus 35mm p&s. Riding the steeps at Big Sky, MT, circa 1999.

Hike and Hogback
Throwing together a solo overnighter in the Manistee National Forest, a forest I've hiked in many times. I was there earlier this season (here, there) but this time I'll be more inland, near the Manistee River. I used to go there a lot when I lived in Michigan, which was about seven years ago. I was looking through some old shit for a photo of the trail when I found some older shit from at least nine years ago which I scanned:
35mm of Mike and me on one of the various "peaks" at Hogback Mountain, near Marquette, MI. I'm pretty sure Chuck took the photo. Hogback isn't terribly tall, but it's steep, it's the only tall thing out there, and you get a near 360 degree view. I remember the night was nice so I chose to sleep without a tent on a relatively large flat area on a peak. I woke up a couple hours later to find that I had rotated and rolled 30-40 feet towards the edge of a large cliff, now only about 10 feet away. Now that would've been unfortunate.

Unfazed
This weekend I'll be headed off to one of (hopefully) many semi-local mini-backpacking trips. How do I know I love this stuff? Well, the weather forecast for the area calls for thunderstorms, strong winds, and cold. Not only was I unfazed by that information, but I was kind of happy to see that what was originally a cakewalk hike might now be a bit more interesting. I'll report back next week.
Unfazed:
That's pretty much how I looked when I read the forecast (yes that is me). Also, sweet haircut.

Dot Matrix Albert
A couple weeks ago I was at my parents' house looking at some old photos when my mom showed me a dot matrix printout of me circa 1982. Apparently she randomly got it while we were at the local Meijer. You remember dot matrix printers? Those were the things that sounded like a dying, squealing robot while printing a blazing one page a minute on fan-fold paper. Yeah, that was bleeding edge technology back then.
Anyway, it seemed a bit fragile so I took a quick photo of it instead of taking it with me. Enlarge it to see it in all it's dotty glory:
Awesome.

Jump
I've been kind of busy these days with a lot of nonsense, so haven't really had much time to take photos. However, I did pick up a low-endish 25mm prime that I'm itching to try out. The image quality isn't that great but the lens is about the size of an Oreo, so it's all about the portability with this one. We'll see.
In the meantime, here's a scan of a ~10 year photo of me (taken by Chuck):
I don't remember the name of the river we were jumping into or even the year this was taken. All I know is it was somewhere in the upper peninsula of Michigan and that it was damn fun.

Another Day...
...another scan:
Standard shot from the Manitou Islands, 7+ years ago? Just used an old Olympus 35mm p&s, and I later developed the film in a homemade changing bag. That really means I duct taped dishwashing gloves onto a garbage bag, turned off the lights in my room, and started pouring chemicals on shit.
I'm off work today because today is Lincoln's birthday, which is a holiday around here. That's cool but today is also Charles Darwin's birthday, so I'm just going to pretend that's the real reason why I have the day off. Go evolution, go.
