Random Michigan Meet-up

This past weekend, Cathy and I visited my parents back in Michigan, and my brother and Rie were visiting too.

Visiting them is always fun, and I usually end up eating and drinking too much. Oh, I ate Olga's for lunch one day. I also played Atari for like 3 hours. It was glorious.

Just drinking some beers with my brother. My dad always has some weird beer on hand. That weekend it was Jumping Cow.

Quentin and Kya getting their frolic on in the golf course behind my parents. I've never seen them so happy - they must feel pretty cooped up in the city.

Here's Kya. It's really hard to get a good photo of her since she is pretty much solid black. In most of my pictures of her, she just looks like a blot of ink. I used a fill flash to bring out some detail here, but even then the background was dangerously close to getting blown out.

Reviving this thing.

Since I've gotten back into photography, I think it's time I revive this blog.

After using film for some time, I finally bought a dSLR this week. Right out of the box it was malfunctioning. Good times. Thankfully, the store promptly replaced it, and I charged it up and shot a couple crappy test photos (yes, I know my white balance is all fucked up - never really dealt with it in film):

Cathy's cinnamon pine cones. Bags of these smelly things are sold everywhere during the holidays. First photo out of camera.

Rear-curtain flash Quentin.

This is Roxie, Cathy's neighbor's pug. She's looking for peanut butter.

And this is Cathy, my main squeeze.

Monitor Calibration Post

Blog background is black so that my photos are easier to see and more comfortable on the eyes.

Crude tests for monitors, for my own reference.

Monitor Darkness.

Monitor Brightness.
